Fast Fashion: Clothing Upcycling

Capstone Project

Fast fashion is defined as “widely available of-the-moment garments” (Bick et. al.). These garments go from the rack in the store to the landfill quickly, creating lots of pollution on the way. Consumers can help mitigate the effects of the fashion industry on the environment by shopping less fast fashion. However, for people my age who would like to stay fashionable and on-trend, this can be hard to do. The goal of my project is to show people how they can upcycle their old clothes to make them new and fashionable instead of buying new clothes at the store. I will take five different clothing items, and upcycle them using sewing, cutting, bedazzling, bleach, and more in order to make them new and interesting. I will then post these items and the steps I took to create them on an Instagram account so that people my age can see them and learn how to do them themselves.

Capstone: Welcome
